December 8th, 2021

Auburn Hills, a world-class leader of automotive and manufacturing business communities, has taken the lead in the most revolutionary automotive trend in decades, Electric Vehicles (EV).

TÜV SÜD North America Transportation Electrification Laboratory will be a custom-built facility specifically designed to meet never-before-seen challenges. The innovative building on the corner of Dutton and Bald Mountain Road will consist of highly sophisticated chambers exclusively designed for the high-intensity testing of lithium-ion batteries, which are used to power Electric Vehicles.

TÜV SÜD, a world-renowned organization, is one of the few companies equipped to take on these futuristic goals. With more than 1,000 locations worldwide and 150 years of testing experience, TÜV SÜD can expect a cordial welcome to its new Auburn Hills facility. “What better partnership could be formed than the one between a world-class developer/builder such as Cunningham-Limp which has built dozens of high-quality buildings in our community, and TÜV SÜD, a world-class company offering testing services to the growing industry of vehicle electrification”, said Mayor Kevin McDaniel.  “As electric vehicles become the future of the automotive industry, Auburn Hills is laser focused on being the corporate address for those companies seeking to advance these technologies in support of a greener economy”, McDaniel added.

The construction of the lab will include novel safety and sustainability requirements. TÜV SÜD has chosen to partner with Cunningham-Limp (C-L), a development and construction firm with recognized success for specialty builds. With more than 70+ completed buildings in Auburn Hills alone, the Michigan-based company is known for its creative building solutions.

The positive impacts of the new laboratory go beyond sustainability alone. The laboratory will also have a notable benefit on regional economic development. With job creation and retainment more vital than ever, this building is an enormous win for Southeast Michigan. The lab will staff many well-paying jobs consisting of highly educated engineers and skilled technicians. As the wave of EV transformation sweeps the Motor City, the lab will be a fundamental resource for the success of these transitions.
